Does uploading videos as unlisted and later changing to public affect performance of the video?
Main Post:
Does it affect the video? I do upload as unlisted first to see if everything like copyright or age restriction is correct. After that I change to public. Is it a good workflow? Or is it better to upload as public right away?
Top Comment: No difference at all. I also leave them unlisted first until they are fully uploaded in HD. Then go through the captions and checking minor details.
[Question] Is it better to set a video to unlisted, then to public. Or should I release it as public immediately? Or does it not matter at all?
Main Post:
Generally, the videos that I release as public immediately, perform better than the ones I set to unlisted first, although this might just be a coincidence.
Any thoughts?
Top Comment: Sounds like what you want to do is schedule the video for the future. It gets promoted just as if it were newly uploaded, and you can put it out at the best time/day and have videos coming out at a regular pace while you're recording new content or just taking some time off.
Wait 24 hours before making video public?
Main Post:
I saw a video on YouTube. He was saying best to wait 24 hours before making a video public so that the YouTube algorithm can find the correct audience for your video. Is this true? Should I wait 24 hours of just make it public right away?
Top Comment: It makes no difference with the algorithm But I usually upload videos and then schedule them at least a week out because I just like being ahead of schedule in case I want to take a break or something. Having a backlog of finished videos really makes it better. Only works if you make timeless evergreen content though. If you make trendy current event type stuff then you gotta get it out while people still care about the topic
How to Be Comfortable Filming People In Public
Main Post:
I want to start filming “lifestyle” type videos of people doing things (walking their dog, eating on a patio at a nice restaurant, playing at the park, etc.) but I’m being held back by the fear of people thinking I’m a creep with a camera and a gimbal walking around.
I tried to do some of these cool tight lifestyle shots today and they were kind of mid.
I feel like the gimbal makes me “seen” too much. And because I’m too self conscious, my shots are suffering for it.
Any advice on how to get over this and produce cool work in this style?
Top Comment: Listen to your gut. Don’t film people without their permission lmao. I know technically you’re allowed to in public (assuming you’re in the US), but it’s just a weird thing to do and if your body is telling you it’s uncomfortable then just listen to it.
Should I make a previously public video public again or do a new one?
Main Post:
Short story, I posted a video, but noticed some unusual stuff happening - despite approving ads youtube wasn't placing them, it kept saying the video was fully processed (4K) and then a minute later would go back to processing. Also views absolutely weren't there.. the stats showed very little uptake from susbcribers even compared to my worst videos.
After 30 min of this I decided to unlist. I was a bit rushed and made it public right after processing initially showed complete - usually I upload the night before release to let YouTube do its thing with processing but not this time as I was behing schedule.
My question is.. am I better to just re-upload the video again and release it after giving more time? Or would I be better to just make the unlisted video public again? My experience with YouTube stats is if the video doesn't do well with subscribers in the first 30 min the algorithm just drops it. It'd certainly possible it just sucked, but I'd hate to see it perform badly because YT's processing was glitching on it.
Top Comment: Delete and re-upload the video with enough changes so that YT won’t identify it as the previous one and “resume” the exposure curve, but rather start from scratch. I personally wait 12h to make sure there are no copyright claims, I’ve had some coming a few hours after 4K processing is complete (I have licensed, using Envato Elements)
thoughts on filming crowds/strangers in public?
Main Post:
i really love the cinematic videos i've seen people make in cities or little villages with all the people walking/talking/doing interesting things. but i'm interested what professionals' thoughts are on the etiquette or ethics of this, as i know a lot of people might not want to be recorded/randomly see someone they don't know recording them. personally i would not feel comfortable recording a child regardless so mainly asking about adults.
do videographers typically ask the people that are the main focus in shots if they're okay with it, or is it just fair game? i feel like it would be hard to ask because you'd miss the organic moments you want to capture, and then it feels almost like you're producing which might make people even more uncomfortable. these are the types of videos i'd love to try out, but i'm just so wary to record people if they might not be cool with it.
eta: i'm sure asking would probably be impossible for a full crowd shot, but still curious what thoughts are on that.
Top Comment: In the states if you're out in public you have no right to privacy. Cameras are everywhere and most people don't care or won't notice unless you put the camera right in their face. Be cool, kind and honest and you shouldn't have any trouble.
What's with people who watch loud videos in public spaces?
Main Post:
Lately I've noticed that people don't care where they are. They'll just watch a video at full volume no matter how many people are quietly waiting for whatever. I always mute the video or save it for later if I'm in public. I've always felt it would be horribly rude to the other people around me to impose my tastes on them like that. Am I crazy?

What does "Public Shorts Views" mean ?
Main Post:
Hey guys. I might sound dumb, but I don't understand what "Public Shorts Views" means in the monetization tab. I basically just started uploading Shorts extracted from my long form videos, and one of them got 200 or so views, but the Public Shorts Views still remain on 0.
I saw on another post that it can take a few days to upload, but I'm just curious on what is taken into consideration. Does it include a short clicked when on the YouTube homepage ? Watched directly from the channel ? Or simply when scrolling through the Shorts videos ?
Top Comment: It's the no of views naturally from swiping shorts player in YouTube.forced view by sending them links won't count
